FSASC Testifies Against Payment Method Proposal

FSASC testified before AHCA last week in response to a proposed implementation of a new payment methodology using Enhanced Ambulatory Payment Groups (EAPG).


23 Hour Care Passes House Select Committee

FSASC members, Mike Madewell of Panama City Surgery Center and Angela Martin of Alliance Surgery Center in Lake Mary, successfully testified in support of HB 85 before the Florida House Select Committee on Affordable Health Care Access. HB 85, by Representative Fritzenhagen (R) Ft. Myers, would allow patients to stay in an ASC for up to 24 hours.


FSASC attends the D.C. Fly-In

As part of its long-standing involvement in federal advocacy, FSASC attended the ASCA Fly-in on September 29th and 30th.


Work Comp Manual to go into effect January 1, 2016

The Florida Division of Workers' Compensation has finalized the 2015 edition of the Florida Workers' Compensation Manual for Ambulatory Surgical Centers.  The Manual will be in effect for all work comp procedures beginning January 1, 2016.

FSASC has met regularly, and sometimes weekly, with the Division since the first of the year when this Manual was first proposed.  We have issued dozens of pages of comments designed to improve the wording of the Manual to make it clear how we are to be paid. 


Governor's Commission discusses 24 Hr Care to Improve Healthcare Delivery in Florida                            

The Governor's Commission on Healthcare and Hospital Funding met with FSASC members yesterday, Aug. 12th, in Tallahassee to discuss ways to improve the healthcare delivery system in Florida.  FSASC Board Member Dr. David Shapiro described ambulatory surgery centers as a key part of healthcare reform and testified "in light of the many benefits ASCs have brought to the nation's health care system, policymakers should develop and implement payment and coverage policies that increase access to, and utilization of, ASCs".
