FSASC attends the D.C. Fly-In

As part of its long-standing involvement in federal advocacy, FSASC attended the ASCA Fly-in on September 29th and 30th.

Two FSASC Fly-in scholarship winners, Brian Rye and Jeanette Ball accompanied Board of Directors member, Dr. David Shapiro, and Executive Director, Peter Lohrengel, on visits to both Florida Senators and key House of Representatives members.  Senator Bill Nelson personally met with the group as did Congressman Bill Posey.

FSASC requested support for the colorectal cancer screening bill (waive co-pay when diagnostic turns therapeutic) and the ASC Quality and Access Act which changes ASC inflation updates from the Consumer Price Index to the Hospital Market Basket index.  All the legislators were familiar with ASCs and saw them in a positive light.  Most expressed interest in supporting both bills with some interested in actively supporting them in the committee process.

This was an excellent opportunity to meet with members of Congress about national policy matters that concern Florida ASCs.
